Indigo Shadow: Page Four

Sienna took the money with a sigh, somehow Charlotte always did this when their little group went shopping together. One day she would get to a table first. Charlotte must have read her expression correctly because she laughed.

“Not a chance,” she said. “I am the mistress of table snatching.”

“Sounds like a challenge to me,” Wendy said. “But for another day. For now Lunch!”

A few minutes later the four friends sat gigging over their coffees and sandwiches as they tried to decide what to do for the rest of the day.

They still hadn’t decided when Sienna noticed quite a few of the people in the street had stopped and were staring skywards and pointing before fumbling for their phones and pointing them in the same direction. She twisted slightly in her chair to see what they were looking at and grabbed for her phone as well.

A glowing sphere of light with a silvery tail was carving its way across the cloudless sky in perfect silence.

“What on Earth is that?” Even as she asked the sphere exploded in a blinding flash of light and yet eerily silently leaving nothing but a fluffy white contrail in the sky. “Buh?”

“Inside now!” Wendy said before raising her voice. “Everyone get inside and away from the windows!” Then when people stared at her stupidly she muttered. “Am I the only person who watched the documentary about that meteorite in Russia.” She grabbed Sienna and Lucy and dragged them towards the coffee shop door. “Come on, Charlotte. When the sound finally gets here we’ll have shattered glass and possibly masonry flying everywhere. We need to be in the back of the shop.”
